PUJ Obstruction Treatment

Because Every Child Deserves a Healthy Start

At CocoonKids, we understand that some conditions in children are discovered unexpectedly — often during routine scans or early check-ups. Hearing that your child has PUJ Obstruction can feel confusing and stressful, but with timely diagnosis and expert care, it can be managed effectively with excellent outcomes.

This condition, which affects the flow of urine from the kidney, is commonly identified even before birth or in early childhood. While some mild cases improve naturally over time, others may require careful monitoring or specialized treatment to protect kidney function and support healthy growth. Our approach combines advanced pediatric urology care with compassionate guidance — helping parents understand every step while ensuring your child receives safe, gentle, and effective treatment.

What is PUJ Obstruction?

PUJ (Pelvi-Ureteric Junction) Obstruction is a condition where there is a blockage at the junction where the kidney meets the ureter (the tube that carries urine to the bladder).

Normally, urine flows smoothly from the kidney to the bladder. In PUJ obstruction, this flow is restricted, causing urine to build up in the kidney.

Understanding the Condition in Simple Terms

Think of the kidney as a water filter and the ureter as a drainage pipe. Now imagine if that pipe becomes partially blocked—water starts backing up. Similarly, in PUJ obstruction, urine cannot flow freely, causing the kidney to stretch and swell.

In many children, this condition is present from birth (congenital) due to a naturally narrow junction or external pressure from nearby blood vessels.

Why Does PUJ Obstruction Occur?

Parents should remain attentive to any unusual urinary symptoms or changes in their child’s comfort. Early identification allows timely evaluation and appropriate care.

If concerns continue or symptoms increase, seeking advice from a pediatric specialist ensures prompt diagnosis and effective treatment.

Most cases are congenital and are often detected early through scans.
